TDPS Director Leigh Smiley says,
Mr. Mayes has taught at the University of Maryland since 1971 (over 40 years). As a Dance educator he has influenced thousands of young dancers to successfully pursue graduate studies, careers in the field, excellence in community, to live in an very physically conscious deliberateness that enables them to deeply engage with their chosen work and reach for their dreams. His encouragement of the students to make bold choices, to see their Dance education as embodied discipline that can be carried into any career within or external to the arts has expanded not only his students’ potentials, but also their confidence and their impact on the regional Dance community.
We're grateful for and proud of the work you do, Alvin!
