Dancing Ireni: Reimaging and Reimagining Choreometrics Symposium, 4/16/15 - 4/18/15

April 08, 2015 School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies

What could you do with online access to over 3000 clips of dances from around the world, annotated with movement analysis, historical and ethnographic contexts, and with discussions with experts and community members?

What could you do with online access to over 3000 clips of dances from around the world, annotated with movement analysis, historical and ethnographic contexts, and with discussions with experts and community members? Join us April 16-18 for an exploration of what was, is and could be for the remarkable array of films and coding sheets that Alan Lomax collected, currently located in a vault at the Library of Congress.

These materials were ground-breaking in their time, and possibly again, but only if they can be digitized and shared, re-imaged and re-imagined for the need for people in the 21st Century to value the unique contributions of cultures, to understand each other more deeply, and to appreciate our differences.
