Samy Selim and Sinclair Ogaga Emoghene selected as a 2014-2015 TLTC-Graduate School International Teaching Fellows

Samy Selim, who arrived to UMD this Fall from Egypt and is a citizen of the United Kingdom, is a 1st year PhD Student in Theatre and Performance Studies. Sinclair Ogaga Emoghene, 2nd year candidate in MFA in Dance, came to UMD from Nigeria.

The School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies is pleased to announce that the two above students have been selected as 2014-2015 TLTC-Graduate School International Teaching Fellows. Congratulations!

This program is co-sponsored by the Teaching and Learning Transformation

Center (TLTC), the Graduate School and Office of Undergraduate Studies and supports the professional development of international graduate teaching assistants as educators.

Each Teaching Fellow will be paired with a senior graduate mentor who will consult with the fellows to facilitate their development as University of Maryland teaching assistants and future faculty. Mentors and fellows will meet at least three times during the fall and spring semesters. Mentors should also observe their mentees’ teaching at least twice each semester and provide feedback.

The TLTC-Graduate School International Teaching Fellows will also meet as a learning community, under the guidance of TLTC. Fellows will participate in meetings throughout the academic year, during which they will share written reflections on teaching, discuss meetings with mentors, and address any concerns they may be having with respect to teaching at Maryland. The meetings will also introduce fellows to various relevant teaching topics, ranging from developing successful discussions, to enhancing critical thinking skills among students, to documenting one's teaching in a portfolio. At least four learning community meetings will occur each semester.

Before the end of the program, fellows will submit reading reflections and a teaching philosophy statement in our online community on teaching in the American education system. Upon successful completion, you will receive

a $500 stipend and a certificate documenting participation in the program. For more information, please visit http://cte.umd.edu/programs/graduate/ITF/.
