Theatre BAs Christopher Wong and Rachel Spires hired for summer gigs

Christopher E. Wong, a sophomore theatre major, will be a lighting apprentice at the Santa Fe Opera in New Mexico. Rachel Spires, another theatre major, will join the cast and crew of Cirque du Soleil's Michael Jackson ONE as a lighting intern.

Congratulations to Christopher E. Wong, a sophomore theatre major, who will be spending his upcoming summer as a Lighting Apprentice at the Santa Fe Opera in New Mexico, one of the nation’s premiere opera programs since 1965.

He will have the opportunity to work with leading designers, such as Rick Fisher, Thomas C. Hase, and Brian Nason, on an extensive five-opera repertory run of The Daughter of the Regiment, Rigoletto, Salome, La Finta Giardiniera and Cold Mountain. His thirst for knowledge and inspiration will thrive in this rigorous and demanding environment. He may be over 2,000 miles away from his hometown on Long Island this summer, but nothing beats watching a Santa Fe sunset!

Congratulations also to Rachel Spires for being selected as a summer lighting intern with the cast and crew of Cirque du Soleil's Michael Jackson ONE in Las Vegas. She is one of three Lighting Interns hired by the international production company this year. Rachel will be helping run the show, as well as performing general electrician duties. She is very excited because not only does she get to work for Cirque, she also gets to see all the Cirque shows in Las Vegas for free and take backstage tours.

Congratulations to both Christopher and Rachel!
