We’re Hiring! Open position for Production and Event Coordinator

The University of Maryland, School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies (TDPS) is searching for a Production and Event Coordinator.

This position coordinates the production and events efforts of the School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies (TDPS) and reports to the Production Manager. Specific duties include, but are not limited to: managing the production needs of the TDPS Experimental Performance Series (formerly known as Second Season); facilitating the production needs of all TDPS-sponsored student groups; administering the production practicum course (staffing crew/build crew) and coordinating all special events related to TDPS such as symposiums, post show receptions; commencement, workshops, etc.and coordinates aspects of the TDPS Main Season productions, such as production supervision and chairing production meetings. As applicable, the Production and Events Coordinator works with the Production Manager in the training and mentoring of student stage managers. Evening and weekend work is required.

Minumum Qualifications:

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience.

Experience:

• 3 years progressive experience in stage, production and/or event management
• Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Expertise in the production process, excellent communication skills
• Excellent organizational skills
• Ability to multi-task, ability to prioritize and manage competing priorities.

Preferences:

• Stage management experience preferred.

Facilities/Location:

The School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies is housed in the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, a state-of-the-art complex that also houses the School of Music, and the Michelle Smith Performing Arts Library. This 318,000 sq. ft., facility features six performance venues, rehearsal rooms, dance studios, technology labs, production shops, four World Outreach classrooms, the Applause Café, and the Encore bar. The Maya Brin Institute for New Performance is renovating and significantly upgrading the equipment for four studios, two labs, and three makerspaces. All TDPS performances are supported by the Clarice Smith professional production staff.

The School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies (TDPS) is nationally recognized as an innovator in performing arts education for the 21st century. Part of the College of Arts and Humanities, TDPS has approximately 200 undergraduate and 70 graduate students enrolled in its programs.
